While Ring™ products satisfy a useful niche, they are limited in their ability to perform integrated/triggered functions, such as permitting:
• The doorbell chime to be played through all or select home speakers
• Activating another electrical device (for example, a buzzer, strobe or siren)
• Alerting a home automation system or a designated phone(s)
• Turning on lights or sound an alarm

Widgets developed a Ring™ device add-on component, referred to as the “Ring™ A Ding,” that enables a ground contact closure or relay actuation based on Ring™ events. The Ring™ A Ding connects to an identified wireless network and is configured as a standard device in the Ring™ app. The Ring™ A Ding is a great add-on for traditional control and automation systems needing to trigger system action items based on Ring™ events (i.e., a Ring™ device motion detection or button press) without ever requiring API or cloud to cloud integration.

The Ring A Ding is very flexible and can be used for numerous applications outside of control systems, including:

  • Enabling traditional doorbell chimes to be rung where physical wiring constraints may prohibit the standard Ring doorbell wiring methodology. For example, a situation where there is a battery-operated Ring or a Ring Elite and only one cat5/cat6 is available.

  • Enabling a light (or another electrical device, such as a buzzer, strobe or siren) to be turned on/off upon a Ring device activation. For example, the Ring A Ding can turn on identified lights or sound an alarm, if a Ring device senses motion.
